Privacy Policy

Introduction

Sygnl ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Sygnl handles your information when you use our macOS application.

TL;DR: Sygnl stores all timer data locally on your device. We don't automatically collect or track anything. The app only sends data when you explicitly choose to submit feedback through the in-app form.

Information We Collect

Local Data (Never Transmitted)

The following data is stored locally on your device only and never leaves your device:

  • Timer settings (focus duration, break duration, session counts)
  • Preferences (theme selection, sound settings, notification preferences)
  • Session history (completed focus sessions, if enabled)
  • Window position and size preferences

Feedback Data (Only When You Submit)

When you choose to submit feedback through the in-app feedback form, we collect:

  • Feedback content: Your bug report, feature request, or general feedback message
  • Feedback type: Whether it's a Bug Report, Feature Request, or General feedback
  • App version: The version of Sygnl you're using (automatically included, shown to you)
  • OS version: Your macOS version (automatically included, shown to you)
  • Email address (optional): Only if you choose to provide it for follow-up

Important: Feedback is only sent when you explicitly click "Submit Feedback". The app shows you exactly what information will be sent before you submit. No data is collected passively or automatically.

Feedback data is stored in a Google Sheet for the sole purpose of improving Sygnl. We do not share, sell, or use this data for any other purpose.

Data Storage and Security

All application data is stored locally on your device in standard macOS application directories. Specifically:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/io.sygnl/ — Application settings and preferences
  • ~/Library/Preferences/io.sygnl.plist — System-level preferences

Your data is protected by your macOS user account permissions and any encryption you have enabled on your device (such as FileVault).

No Automatic Analytics or Tracking

The Sygnl macOS application does not use any automatic analytics services, tracking pixels, or telemetry. We don't passively track:

  • How often you use the app
  • Which features you use
  • Your usage patterns
  • Whether you've installed or uninstalled the app

The app runs completely offline for its core functionality. The only network connection occurs when:

  • You submit feedback using the in-app feedback form (Settings → Send Feedback)
  • System updates (if you've enabled automatic updates in your macOS system preferences)

All timer data stays local. Always.

Website Analytics (sygnl.io)

Our website (sygnl.io) uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site and to improve the user experience. This is separate from the Sygnl app.

Third-Party Services

In the Sygnl App

Feedback submission: When you choose to submit feedback through the app, your feedback is sent to Google Sheets (a Google service) for storage and review. This only happens when you explicitly click "Submit Feedback". Google's processing of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Besides the optional feedback feature, the Sygnl app does not integrate with or share data with any third-party services.

On Our Website

Our website (sygnl.io) uses Google Analytics 4, which is a third-party service operated by Google LLC. Google Analytics may collect and process data according to Google's Privacy Policy.

macOS Permissions

Sygnl may request the following macOS permissions to function properly:

  • Notifications: To alert you when focus sessions or breaks complete
  • Audio Playback: To play completion sounds (optional)

These permissions are used solely for the app's functionality and never to collect data.

Our Privacy Commitment

Privacy isn't a feature—it's a right. Sygnl is built for people who value focus and privacy. Your timer data stays on your device, under your control. The only time we receive any information from you is when you explicitly choose to send us feedback—and we show you exactly what's being sent before you click submit.
